It’s the time of the year again where we hear loud tunes of the IPL and see different teams thriving their way to the top. The most beautiful thing about the game is how all the players are divided irrespective of the countries they belong to. IPL has been going on for more than 12 years now and the spirit never gets old!
Today, we will take you on a journey of the top 10 times players aced the game like no other!
- Gayle’s 175 not out off 66 Balls
One of the most memorable moments in the IPL’s history is Chris Gayle’s unforgettable 66-ball 175 runs.
The West Indian opener smashed the Pune Warriors, clubbing 17 sixes and breaking multiple records in the game.
- Gilchrist’s 85 off Just 35 Balls
Adam Gilchrist changed the game single-handedly! Chasing 153 to win in the semi-final of 2009 IPL, he scored 85 off just 35 balls. His team, the Deccan Chargers, went on to win the match the tournament too.
- Tanvir’s 6 Wickets for 14 Runs
Sohail Tanvir removed both of the openers for ducks, and the skilful Pakistani went on to take what is still the IPL’s best-ever figures of six for 14.
- De Villiers’ 47 off 17 Balls
Needing 181 to win against Deccan, De Villiers scored 47 off 17 deliveries to see his Royal Challengers Bangalore over the line, and what made it even more spectacular was that most of the damage came against his compatriot.
- McCullum’s 158 off 73 Balls
Brendon McCullum’s 158 not out in the competition’s very first match left the spectators speechless. He smashed 15 sixes as part of a huge individual score that would remain the tournament’s highest score for five years.
- Hussey’s 116 off 54 Balls
In just the second-ever IPL match, a day after Brendon McCullum smashed 158 in the first, Michael Hussey showed his taste for the format by scoring 116 off 54 balls.
- Amit Mishra’s Hattrick
Amazingly, Mishra has three IPL hattricks to his name, the first of which was in 2008 and the second in 2011. Amit Mishra shut down the Pune Warriors in a low-scoring thriller with a sensational hattrick to help the Sunrisers Hyderabad to victory in 2013.
- Dhoni’s 51 off 20 Balls
With a monster strike rate of 255.00, Dhoni helped his team post what turned out to be a match-winning total of 187. With CSK struggling against Mumbai Indians and looking likely to post an under-par score, he succeeded in getting 51 off just 20 balls.
- Ganguly’s Celebration
Sourav Ganguly’s ecstatic response to bowling Kevin Pietersen with his very first delivery in the IPL is indeed a timeless moment.
- Rajasthan Chases Down 217
Often when chasing huge scores for victory, the need to score heavily from the start leads to early wickets, and the innings dissolve into a painful damp squib. But in 2008, Rajasthan Royals managed to chase the 214 runs required with just one ball to spare.
