Top 10 Batsmen in History of Cricket

Cricket, also known as the ‘batsmen’s game’, has a huge fan base across the world and boasts of some of the most talented players. Here are the top ten batsmen of all-time that evolved the sport of cricket into an emotion through the display of patience, technique, and spirit:

1.      Sir Don Bradman – Australia

In 52 test matches, Bradman’s average was 99.94 with 6,996 runs throughout the career. His statistics and records wrote the first pages in history for the greatest batsmen of cricket.

2.      Wally Hammond – England

Bradman’s arch-rival, Hammond is hailed as the best batsman of England’s team with 7,249 runs scored at an average of 58.45.

3.      Sachin Tendulkar – India

The Master Blaster has total 100 centuries across test and ODI formats along with the record of being the first Indian to make 200+ runs in a 50-over match.

4.      Sir Vivian Richards – West Indies

With 24 centuries in 121 test matches, Sir Viv Richards’ attacking nature of smashing the ball around the park was later defined as a ‘batting style’ for players like Virendra Sehwag and Adam Gilchrist.

5.      Brian Lara – West Indies

Lara was the first individual to score 400 runs (not out) in a test match. In his career, he scored 50 centuries across both formats with 11,953 runs in test cricket only.

6.      Sir Garfield Sobers – West Indies

Sobers has more than 1,250 wickets and over 35,000 runs to his name across both formats. He is referred to as the first true all-rounder in the history of cricket.

7.      Ricky Ponting – Australia

Ponting scored 41 test and 30 ODI centuries with over 20,000 runs. Australia won the maximum number of Ashes Cup, World Cup, and countless series under his leadership.

8.      Jacques Kallis – South Africa

The modern all-rounder has won the maximum number of Man of The Match titles ever and is the only player in the history of cricket with over 11,000 runs and 250 wickets.

9.      Rahul Dravid – India

‘Mr. Dependable’ or ‘The Wall’, Dravid’s career revolved around his technique in ODI, patience in test cricket, and 146 50-runs across both formats.

10.  Kumar Sangakkara – Sri Lanka

Sangakkara has 12,400 runs and 38 centuries in 134 test matches along with 150 dismissals as wicketkeeper.
